The Vases 1 collection includes pieces that are really somewhere between vases and sculpture. Most will still function as a Vase and they all will hold liquid, so you can use them for flowers if you like, (although many are impractical because the form limits the function to some extent). Like the Vases 2 category I wanted to get away from the simple shaped pot that you could make on a potters wheel. I found it too limiting and I wanted to see what kind of possibilities would develop with my unique skills and thought processes. So the vases didn’t have to be round they could be asymmetrical, have hard edges and you could even have negative spaces. I often apply perspective drawing techniques to my three dimensional ceramic work. This creates a slight illusion but it also allows the viewer to see the sides at the same time as the face. I can use the the side planes to juxtapose colors much like a hard edge painting. Resulting in something like a Cubistic hard edge painting in 3 dimensions.
